Inspection & Cleaning
We inspect the roof, determine whether it is a suitable candidate, address minor issues where appropriate, and clean organic buildup when needed.
In the key laboratory-tested shingle performance categories, yes.
Independent testing on approximately 15-year-old asphalt shingles showed dramatic improvement after treatment — including granule retention, flexibility/pliability, tear performance and water-vapor permeability.
This short video explains how Roof Shield is applied and how the process helps preserve aging asphalt shingles.

That is why BlueWater Renew puts the laboratory results ahead of the price comparison.
You read that correctly. These were approximately 15-year-old shingles before treatment.
Roof Shield also states that it is the only product on the market that has passed all ASTM tests for a new roof after application. See Roof Shield's FAQ.
An aged roof does not literally become a brand-new roof. Existing installation quality, decking, flashing, prior damage and roof condition still matter. The claim above refers to shingle performance in the laboratory testing and to Roof Shield's published manufacturer claim.
| Shingle condition | Granule loss | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Untreated 15-year-old | 4.10 g | FAIL |
| Treated 15-year-old | 0.30 g | PASS |
| Brand-new comparison | 0.20 g | PASS |
Granules are the protective surface of an asphalt shingle. They shield the asphalt below from UV exposure and weather. As shingles age and dry out, granules can release more easily. Once granules are gone, they cannot be put back.
Roof Shield's role is to help the aged shingle hold onto the granules it still has. In the cited test, measured granule loss dropped from 4.10 g to 0.30 g — a 93% reduction.
Older shingles become dry and brittle. Roof Shield replenishes oils in the asphalt, improving flexibility. The treated aged shingles passed the applicable new-shingle pliability criterion in the testing.
Tear performance matters because shingles must tolerate stress around fasteners, thermal movement and weather. The treated aged shingles met the applicable evaluated tear-strength requirement.
Roof Shield is not simply a hard coating laid over the roof. Vapor testing evaluates how moisture vapor moves through the shingle. The treated aged shingles met the applicable evaluated vapor-permeability requirement rather than becoming sealed inside an impermeable film.
Available through the end of the application season, weather and roof condition permitting.
Request Evaluation| Roof Shield at $1.00/sq. ft. | $2,000 |
| Replacement planning estimate $5.50/sq. ft. plus the normal waste factor | About $12,870 |
| Up-front difference | About $10,870 |
| Roof Shield annualized over first 5-year treatment period | $400/yr |
| Replacement annualized over a 22-year planning life | $585/yr |
Planning example only. In our West Michigan field experience, many asphalt-shingle roofs are being considered for replacement around 19–24 years; 22 years is used here as a practical midpoint. Actual roof area, replacement price, waste, service life, pitch, access and repairs vary. A five-year treatment period is not the same thing as a new roof.
The four-step process below follows Roof Shield's published technology process. View the official Roof Shield technology page.

We inspect the roof, determine whether it is a suitable candidate, address minor issues where appropriate, and clean organic buildup when needed.

The Roof Shield treatment penetrates the shingles to replenish oils and restore flexibility while improving moisture resistance.

Roof Shield helps aging shingles hold onto protective granules, reducing further loss and helping protect the asphalt beneath from UV exposure.

We inspect the completed application for coverage and overall results before the project is finished.

BlueWater Renew works in West Michigan during the normal Roof Shield application season. When winter temperatures in Michigan are too cold for proper roof treatment, we also complete Roof Shield projects in warmer southern markets. The southern projects shown here are real Roof Shield jobs completed during Michigan's off-season.
